Switzerland and the Philippines have been dealing with each other for 60 years already so it’s about time that there be a Swiss Film Festival in the Philippines.
Demonstrating they have a totally different way of doing things, the Embassy of Switzerland is holding the film fest in two waves, with the second wave happening from May 5 to 7—this weekend—at the Shangri-La Cineplex in Mandaluyong.
Three films are on the agenda: Heidi, which is based on the 1880 Swiss novel Heidi’s Years of Wandering and Learning; Rascals on the Road about four kids searching for the fabulous treasure of Lake Titicaca, and Vitus, which is the story of the 12-year-old piano prodigy being smothered by his parents.
Saying they want to touch the hearts of the Filipino public, Swiss Ambassador to the Philippines Andrea Reichlin told Manila Bulletin that “it was a conscious effort on our part (to make it a family-oriented film festival) because we want to create a family experience. We want everyone from children to young adults to the lolos and lolas to enjoy them. The stories are very nice and different.”
