A heaping congratulations to Jasmin Castillo Buensalida of De La Salle University College of Saint Benilde for finishing in the Top Ten—6th place overall—in the recently concluded Third Young Chef Olympiad held in India.
Jasmin represented the Philippines, accompanied by one of the instructors of the college’s School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management, Chef Sabrina Gan.
Organized by India’s International Institute of Hotel Management, the YCO tests the skills of the participants as well as introduces them to an international network of celebrity chefs and industry professionals.
“I trained for each round under time pressure, Jasmin said. “That’s why when it was the actual competition, I finished minutes ahead,” adding that it doesn’t matter much if you present the best dish but you finish beyond the time limit.
The YCO was launched in 2015 as an all-India tilt. It is now sees young apprentices around the world battle it out in three rounds of challenges, and competitors with the highest cumulative scores advance to the finals.
