Attention, bookworms! Tahereh Mafi will release not one, but three new books to her New York Times’ Best-Selling ‘Shatter Me’ series.
ICYMI, the Shatter Me trilogy follows 17-year-old Juliette Ferrars, a girl with a deadly touch, on her journey to self-discovery and self-acceptance despite how society has treated her as a monster and a weapon.
In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mafi disclosed that continuing the series was brought upon by re-reading the books after she had difficulty remembering a character’s last name during a meeting with screenwriter of the upcoming TV adaptation of the books.
“It had been a couple of years since the series ended, and I needed a refresher. That day I went home and began a reread of the books for no reason but to reacquaint myself with the story. But by the time I finished the last book in the series, I realized something that only time and distance had been able to teach me: At the end of Ignite Me, Juliette’s story had only just begun. I saw very clearly then what the next steps in her journey had to be, and I was suddenly anxious to bring the world back to life,” she said.
The latest installment of the dystopian series titled Restore Me will venture into Juliette’s new life resulting from the choices she made in order to find herself and to fight back against oppression.
This is Mafi’s return to the YA scene after writing New York Times’ Best-Selling middle-grade book ‘Furthermore’ and its upcoming companion novel ‘Whichwood’, a dark Persian fantasy, to be released later this year.
Mafi credits her return to the Shatter Me world not only to the stories yet to be unraveled but also to the love and dedication of the fans.
“But the thing I’d most like to say, above all else, is this: these books are still alive and thriving — 6 years after their initial publication — because of the fans. I’m everyday astounded that people are still finding these books and telling their friends about them, and I can’t articulate in any number of words how grateful I am for the love and support.”
The first book in the new story arc slated for release in March 2018. We’re so excited for this!
