“WOW Philippines” (2003-2010), “Pilipinas Kay Ganda” (2010), and “It’s more fun in the Philippines” (2012-2017) are just few of the most remarkable tourism slogans of our country. And for 2017, the Department of Tourism (DOT) led by Sec. Wanda Teo, launched the new tagline “Experience the Philippines” alongside a new promotional video.

The 60-second video entitled “Sights” was inspired by the experiences of a Japanese retiree named M. Uchimura who settled in the Philippines and enjoyed different activities like island hopping in the Hundred Islands of Pangasinan, dancing with the locals in Banaue Rice Terraces in Ifugao, riding an ATV in Paoay Sand Dunes, and enjoying his snacks on the cobblestoned Calle Crisologo in Vigan.

“Here, you don’t have to see the sun to discover radiance; you don’t have to see colors to experience vibrance; you don’t have to see smiles to know you are safe; you don’t have to see to feel you are home,” says Uchimura in a voice over.

At the end of the promotional video, Uchimura takes out his walking stick to navigate the street, revealing he is blind.

According to Sec. Wanda Teo, the ad will go beyond featuring the country’s top destinations but more importantly, “it encourages tourist to experience the Philippines themselves to know how it is to be a Filipino.”

“We are shifting our focus in our promotional campaigns towards the unique experiences that each destinations could offer, Filipino hospitality, and security.

“The basic element of “fun” remains, as it is truly the Filipinos who make the total tourism experience fulfilling and memorable. The heart and essence of the tourism thrust is the people,” she added.

In the coming months, DOT will roll out series of advertisements and it will be shown in international television channels and roadshows of the department.
