Just in time for the Pride Month, Charice Pempengco changed his name to Jake Zyrus last Monday, June 19.The 25-year-old singer-songwriter made the announcement through his social media accounts.

Jake Zyrus—in his first tweet using the name—thanked all his supporters.

“My first tweet as Jake. Overwhelmed. Saw all your love comments and I’m so happy. Finally. I love you, everyone and see you soon,” he tweeted.

In another tweet, he also acknowledged “all the beautiful write ups” about his name change and that he won’t let anyone ruin his happiness.

Deleting all but one post on Instagram, Jake sent his message of love for his fans.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for the love and respect. I love you back and I’m sending peace to everyone,” he posted.

The name also made it to the Twitter trends list as of 3:42 p.m. yesterday, to which Jake Zyrus expressed his gratitude and love for the supporters.

“Nakakakilig pala talaga. I’m so happy. Thank you all. I love you. No, really, I LOVE YOU,” he said.

While some netizens took the news with negativity, others came to his rescue.

 

Jake, who rose to fame as little girl Charice with a big voice in 2005, revealed that he was a lesbian. He clarified in succeeding interviews that he identifies himself as a man. He has since underwent transformation, from a shorter, blonde hairstyle and tattoos to an edgier rock music.
