Some major throwback feels are on the way!
Disney has finally announced the lead actors and actresses of the remake of its 1992 animated film, Aladdin.
Egyptian-Canadian actor and newcomer Mena Massoud is set to play the role of Aladdin while Power Rangers star Naomi Scott will take on Jasmine.
The company made the announcement on Saturday, July 15, at the D23 Expo in California. This comes after a long and arduous search for the lead actors in multiple countries with over 2,000 tried and tested for the roles, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Meanwhile, Hollywood superstar Will Smith will be the musical movie’s Genie.
The movie will be directed by Guy Ritchie, whose previous works include the Sherlock Holmes movie in 2009 and its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in 2011.
Disney, however, is still in search for the villain Jafar, the Sultan, and Jafar’s sidekick, Iago.
Aladdin is set to begin shooting, August, in London and is among the lates live-action adaptations Disney has lined up, including Mulan and The Lion King.
Filipina singer and actress Lea Salonga first provided the vocals for Jasmine back in 1992, for “A Whole New World”.
This will surely be a whole new exciting musical movie for everyone. We can’t wait!
