Linkin Park lead vocalist Chester Bennington was found dead of an apparent suicide on July 20. He was 41.

The rap-rock band frontman hanged himself at a private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. County, according to celebrity news website TMZ.

Bennington was home alone at the time of the suicide while his family was out of town. His body was discovered by a housekeeper Thursday just before 9 AM.

“Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one,” fellow Linkin Park vocalist Mike Shinoda said on Twitter following the incident.

It was reported that the singer was profoundly affected by the suicide by hanging last May of his close friend, Soundgarden and Audioslave lead vocalist Chris Cornell, who would’ve been 53 the day of Bennington’s death.

Brian Elias, chief of operations for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, told Rolling Stone that more information will be released next week Thursday after conducting a death investigation.

Fans and fellow musicians quickly expressed sorrow at the singer’s sudden death on social media.

“Feeling *incredibly* sad. I’m thinking of his family & friends. What an enormous loss. My heart hurts ,” one fan said.

In a tweet, Chance the Rapper offered his condolences to Bennington’s loved ones.

Paramore lead vocalist Hayley Williams also gave insight to what artists go through creating music for the world.

The singer has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction in the past. In an interview, he also revealed he was sexually abused as a child by an older male friend which resulted to his frequent contemplation to commit suicide.

Bennington is survived by his six children from two marriages.
