“We invite you to help us say goodbye to The Originals, which begins shooting its fifth and final season on Monday,” Plec said.

This comes a year after The Vampire Diaries announced the end of its 8-year run and just ahead of their Comic Con panel in San Diego, California this weekend.

Plec said it’s both a burden and a blessing to have control to the ending of a series, an opportunity she thanked The CW President Mark Pedowitz, Warner Brothers Television chief executive Peter Roth, and the show’s fans for.

Joseph Morgan, the show’s lead actor playing the role of Niklaus Mikaelson, also expressed his gratitude to supporters following the series finale announcement.

will be our last. Thanks for your undying support & I hope you’ll keep the darkest corner of your heart reserved for us,” he tweeted.

“Celebrate with us, cry with us, visit with us, watch us next spring when we air and know that in a show about an immortal family who believes in, ‘Always and forever,’ it’s never really the end of the story,” Plec ended.

The note’s conclusion, however, might be more than just a tease, according to Entertainment Weekly. Plec earlier mentioned the idea of a second spin-off focusing on Caroline. Caroline, played by actress Candice King, is set to appear in the season premiere of the last season of The Originals.

Even Morgan followed up his earlier tweet with a hint, saying that ‘anything could happen’.

Well, we’re definitely hoping that another spin-off will happen soon.

“The Originals” is a spin-off series from The Vampire Diaries. The story line focuses on Niklaus Mikaelson and the rest of the original family of vampires as they get entangled with the ‘supernatural politics’ in New Orleans. Its pilot episode aired October of 2013.
