Television host and radio personality Ryan Seacrest will return as the host of the talent competition American Idol in its 2018 reboot.

Seacrest made the announcement on July 20, Thursday, with co-host Kelly Ripa at the Live with Kelly and Ryan show.

“I don’t know if you’ve ever been in a 15 year relationship and then for a reason you really don’t know you break up, and I thought, ‘Gosh it’d be great to get back together at some point,’” Seacrest explained.

He said that the show allowed him to experience all his career and life opportunities, for which he is thankful for.

“It’s been an incredible journey from day one,” he added. “To be asked to return this year, at my new home at Disney|ABC, is an honor, if not a bit surreal. I believe ABC is the perfect home for ‘Idol,’ and I’ve every confidence the show’s legions of fans will love it, especially Idol‘s best traditions of showcasing heartwarming stories, remarkable talent discovery, and, best of all, making dreams come true,” he continued.

Newcomer judge Katy Perry expressed her excitement in a tweet following the news.

Meanwhile, the 42-year-old host reassured viewers that he is ‘not going anywhere anytime soon’ and will remain as a host alongside Ripa for the morning talk show.

The American Idol is a popular talent competition show that has produced some of the most successful musicians in the US and around the world including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jeniffer Hudson,  Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, and Adam Lambert. Ryan Seacrest hosted the show throughout its 15-season run.

We can’t wait to hear Seacrest introducing the show and dimming the lights every elimination! Here’s a teaser from American Idol:
