The teaser trailer for the film adaptation of the 2011 science-fiction novel, Ready Player One is here – and we are so ready for more.
Dubbed as the “Holy Grail of Pop Culture,” the Ready Player One trailer promises to bring nostalgia with a crazy good mix of ’80s pop culture references.
Based on the novel of the same name by Ernest Cline, the story focuses on a teenager in a virtual world called Oasis finding himself competing in a treasure hunt against ruthless foes after the game’s founder dies and and the fortune that he leaves behind is the grand prize.
According to Vogue (who’s obviously just as excited as us), the trailer reveals a plot that’s one part Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (eccentric billionaire creates contest to find a worthy heir) and one part The Matrix. The references do not stop there as it screams Back to the Future, Lord of the Rings, Batman, Tomb Raider, Mad Max Akira, and more. Imagine seeing the final film? There must be more!
Legendary director and producer Steven Spielberg has already commenced productions of the film adaptation starring Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg, and T. J. Miller.
The film is slated for a Spring 2018 release in the US, summer time in the Philippines.
