Designed by Rodrigo Corral, the brainchild behind the famous The Fault in our Stars art, the cover features the title in thick black letters with an orange swirl going down against a white background, most likely depicting the anecdote written at the beginning of Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time and referenced in the novel.

Entertainment Weekly describes it as a ‘humorous illustration of both people’s obstinacy in the face of facts and the problem of infinite regression when trying to think philosophically about the nature of the universe’.

The story has it that a scientist once giving a lecture on astronomy was interjected by an audience member and was told that the world did not revolve around the sun. She said it rested on the back of a turtle. When the scientist asked what the turtle was standing on, the woman laughed and said, “It’s turtles all the way down.”

Green’s latest work follows the life of sixteen-year-old Aza who ‘never intended to pursue the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett, but there’s a hundred-thousand-dollar reward at stake and her Best and Most Fearless Friend, Daisy, is eager to investigate. Together, they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett’s son, Davis.

Aza’s story, a ‘brilliant novel of love, resilience, and the power of lifelong friendship’told in  ‘shattering’ and ‘unflinching clarity’, while fictional is also personal.

“This is my first attempt to write directly about the kind of mental illness that has affected my life since childhood,” he said, admitting in 2015 that he has obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety. The story’s protagonist, Aza, happens to be ‘living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts’.

John Green is the award-winning author behind best-selling novels such as Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines, Paper Towns and The Fault in Our Stars.

Turtles All The Way Down is set for an October release in the Philippines.
