British singer and songwriter Sam Smith just unveiled the new music video for his latest hit single,”Too Good at Goodbyes,” – and it was heartbreaking.
The new release was made on Sam Smith’s social media accounts on Monday, September 18. As of writing, the MV is currently trending on Youtube at no. 15.
Portraying romantic breakdown of relationships, the stirring video is filled with distraught couples slow dancing, staring at each other’s eyes, crying and turning away from each other – all anguished, frustrated and consoling of their partners.
Smith can also be seen in melancholy with an unidentified lover, gripping his back in an embrace.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Smith said the song “is one of the most personal moments” as it is about him and a relationship he was in.
“I was in a really bad place. I got dumped, which wasn’t very nice. Writing music about that kind of thing is normally like therapy for me, but when I got dumped this time ’round I just couldn’t write for about two months,” he told Elton John in a separate interview.
The clip for the piano ballad also features his signature soulful adlibs which were not heard in the previously released audio of “Too Good at Goodbyes.”
The singer first rose to fame in 2012 when he was featured on Disclosure’s breakthrough single “Latch.” He has since produced massive hits such as “Stay With Me,” “Lay Me Down,” “Money On My Mind,” “I’m Not The Only One,” and “Like I Can.”
Smith’s new and still untitled follow-up album to In The Lonely Hour is set for release before Christmas.
