Serena van der Woodsen would sure find this film mind-boggling.
American actress Blake Lively is back on the big screen with psychological drama film, All I See Is You.
Open Road Films released the official theatrical trailer across all its social media accounts on Tuesday, September 19.
Co-written by Marc Forster and Sean Conway, the film follows the story of Gina, a woman who lost her sight at a young age in a car crash and now lives with her husband, James, in Bangkok, Thailand.
When a medical procedure allows Gina to regain her sight, she starts to see the world with a new sense of wonder with the chance at a fuller life with her husband. But what she would eventually see is the disturbing reality of her marriage that is based solely on co-dependence: Gina being blind and James being her eyes.
In an interview with Glamour, Lively said the movie is “an obsessive love story” and “an exploration of relationships.”
“When the codependency no longer exists [when she can see again], it can create fractures,” she said.
The 30-year-old actress also said Gina had her emotional development arrested due to trauma ‘so when she regains her sight, it’s as if she is experiencing adolescence’.
The movie also attempts to look into the power dynamics between men and women in relationships.
“She’s [Gina] changing when she’s in a relationship with an established power dynamics,” Lively added.
Forster, who is also the film’s director and whose past works include James Bond film Quantum of Solace and World War Z, praised the former Gossip Girl lead star for her expanded acting range and for channeling untapped talents such as singing.
“She is in front of a mic and she starts singing. The studio was (American singer, songwriter, producer) Babyface’s, and he came in and was suddenly standing there saying, “She’s great! She needs no help,” the director shared.
All I See Is You will be out in US theaters on October 27. No local release date has been revealed as of writing, but this movie can surely be a blockbuster.
