The creators of hit mystery-thriller Pretty Little Liars (PLL) just revealed that they are developing a spin-off series called, “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists”.
American cable network, Freeform, made the announcement via PLL’s official Facebook and Twitter accounts on Tuesday, September 26.
Based on the popular book series The Perfectionists written by #1 New York Times Bestselling author of PLL, Sara Shepard, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists will follow the story of the seemingly perfect Beacon Heights, its top-tier colleges and overachieving residents. But the stress of pursuing perfection leads to the town’s first murder and “behind every Perfectionist is a secret, a lie and a needed alibi.”
In a Freeform press release, executive vice president of Programming and Development Karey Burke said they are committed to delivering shows that push boundaries, with Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish) and Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) reprising their roles to lead the series this time around.
“We can’t wait to continue I. Marlene King’s rich and revolutionary storytelling with a new crop of leading ladies from Beacon Heights who will hold just as many secrets and lies as Rosewood did,” she explained.
Executive producer and showrunner King also expressed her excitement over collaborating once again with creators and actors that helped build the PLL cultural and social media phenomenon many fans have come to love and obsess over. The seven-season series remains the No. 1 most social TV series for 2016-2017 season to date with 266 million engagements and is still the Top 6 most tweeted, scripted cable TV telecasts in the platform’s history.
“I’m beyond excited to continue my collaboration with Sara Shepard, Alloy, Freeform and Warner Horizon. I can’t wait to introduce our fans – and Sasha and Janel – to a new world of thrills and chills in Beacon Heights,” she said.
As of writing, King has already completed writing the pilot episode. She will also be co-executive producers with Leslie Morgenstein (Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries) and Gina Girolamo (The 100, The Originals). No official airing date has been announced, as well (but we’ll sure keep you posted).
Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists will be produced by Alloy Entertainment and Long Lake Media in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television.
Are you excited for the new PLL spin-off? We honestly can’t wait to see it!
