After the reports of Matt Mondanile’s alleged sexual misconduct made the rounds on the internet, Sleeping Boy Collective has officially cancelled Ducktails’ first show in the Philippines.
In an article released by SPIN on October 13, the remaining members of the Mondanile’s former band, Real Estate, provided a statement admitting that Mondanile a.k.a. Ducktails was fired from the band last February 2016 over allegations about his behavior with women.
“Matt Mondanile was fired in February 2016 when allegations of unacceptable treatment of women were brought to our attention. While we urged him to seek counseling at the time of termination, we are no longer in contact. We feel that any abuse of one’s power or status to victimize another is completely unacceptable. We applaud the courage of the women who came forward to make us aware so that we could address the issue head on,” it wrote.
Prior to Real Estate’s statement, Mondanile denied all the allegations in a phone interview with Pitchfork.
Sleeping Boy Collective issued an official statement on Saturday, October 14 regarding the cancellation of the Manila show.
“It’s official. We will not push through with Ducktails’ Manila show. The Sleeping Boy Collective will not tolerate this abusive kind of behavior.
“Sorry to disappoint all of you. We are (or were) fans of the music, but we refuse to enable a person who has harmed so many. We put the rights of the victims and survivors first,”the collective posted on Facebook.
The music project led by Mondanile was originally scheduled for a Manila gig on October 31 at Mow’s Bar in Quezon City.
