Long live the king!
Black Panther is a gritty and an unstoppable king in the newly-released trailer for the Marvel superhero’s solo film.
Marvel Studios released the new clip on all of its official social media accounts on Monday, October 16.
The trailer follows T’challa’s (Chadwick Boseman) return to his home, the secret world of Wakanda, post-Captain America: Civil War. As the newly-crowned king, he finds his sovereignty challenged by factions in his own country, with Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) attempting to dethrone him.
While the two-minute-and-eighteen-second teaser is still light on plot, we know from previous spoilers that T’challa would eventually team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje – Wakanda’s special forces – to prevent a world war.
The clip also provided a glimpse of just how much the fight between the Marvel hero and the villain will escalate while Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) reminds T’challa, “You get to decide the kind of king you are going to be.”
Directed by Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed), the film is one of the most highly-anticipated hero movie (and the eighteenth) from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and is also the first in the series to feature a predominantly black cast.
Black Panther is set for a February 16, 2018 theatrical release.
