From letting us explore different themes like social commentaries and futuristic romance, to combining sub-genres into one fascinating plot, science-fiction is truly one of the most fascinating genres as it allow us to go wild with our imagination.

For 2018, the online streaming site Netflix has a lot of sci-fi TV series and movies for us. With that, allow us to list down some of the coolest shows that you can stream (or even download) on Netflix: 

1. FullMetal Alchemist 

The live-action adaptation of the hit anime series FullMetal Alchemist is about Edward Elric, an alchemist that searches for a way to restore his brother Al’s body with the military government and mysterious monsters watching closely.

2. Altered Carbon 

Based on the novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon revolves around a prisoner who returns to life in a new body with one chance to win his freedom by solving a mind-bending murder.  

3. The Cloverfield Paradox

This American sci-fi film directed by Julius Onah, written by Oren Uziel and Doug Jung is the third installment in the Cloverfield franchise. It’s about the scientists that test a device to solve an energy crisis but end up face-to-face with a dark alternate reality.

4.  Lucid Dream 

An interesting Korean sci-fi thriller where a devastated father attempts to track down his missing child through lucid dreams.

5. The Discovery 

Starring Rooney Mara, Jason Segel, Robert Redford, Jesse Plemons, Riley Keough, and Ron Canada, The Discovery is a romantic sci-fi film where a scientist whose proof of an afterlife caused a rash of suicides forges ahead with his research. 

6. The Expanse

Netflix has already acquired the American series that revolves around a missing person that links an asteroid belt detective, the captain of an ice freighter, and a diplomat trying to avert a war.

7. 2001: A Space Odyssey 

If you want to watch a classic sci-fi movie, this Stanley Kubrick film is perfect for you. 2001: A Space Odyssey is about the two astronauts battle for their ship’s intelligent computer system while investigating the appearance of mysterious monoliths throughout the universe.

8. iBoy 

In this British sci-fi thriller, a teenage boy discovers he can control electronic devices after fragments of a cellular phone lodged in his brain. He then uses his newfound power for revenge.

9. Mute 

As he searches for his girlfriend, a mute man with a brutal past ventures into a near-future Berlin seamy underworld.
