Last weekend, Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia’s Ethiopian photoshoot has been the talk of the town. Social media netizens called them out for being “racist” and “distasteful” for using Ethiopians as “props” and “background.”
In a joint statement, Crawford and Garcia said that the photos were “taken out of context” and it was not their intention to be offensive. They also explained that the shoot was for the tourism of Ethiopian Airlines.
“It’s unfortunate how it was taken out of context. It’s far from what we intended. We were invited and sponsored by Ethiopian Airlines to do our shoot there for their tourism and capture their natural environment because we were told that tourism helps their economy. That’s why we were in Ethiopia,” the statement said.
