Missed your chance to watch Mikhail Red’s Birdshot last year? Fret not, because you can now watch the film on Netflix starting this March!
In an interview with Manila Bulletin, its director, Mikhail Red, said that he is excited and it is a dream come true for him as a Netflix fan.
“It is overwhelming. I’ve always been a Netflix fanboy. Having content that is watchable by 117 million subscribers worldwide is just a dream come true for me. It is the widest potential audience any filmmaker could aim for. I hope this opens doors for other Filipino filmmakers. I hope to continue to create films with universal themes that is accessible to an international audience,” Red said.
Starring Arnold Reyes, Mary Joy Apostol, and John Arcilla, Birdshot tells the story of a young farm girl who wanders off into a Philippine forest reserve where she mistakenly shoots a Philippine Eagle. Aside from winning the Critics’ Choice Award in the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) last year, it garnered international awards like Best Film in the Asian Future Tokyo Film Fest 2016 and the Oscar selection for the Philippines in 2017.
Birdshot will be the first Philippine content released locally on Netflix, and will be available on the platform internationally on March 26, Monday.
