This is not like those “boy meets girl” stories nor is it one of the “we accidentally bumped into one another in the train station” encounters. This is an unhurried story about two people who learned to love themselves the same time they were learning to love one another; an ongoing story about friends turned best friends turned lovers.
I’ve always tried my best to remember how we came to be and, to be honest, I can’t recall when or how or why I fell in love with you. All I know is I did. We did not even have that fiery type of love. As a matter of fact, ours burned slowly. Ours was the type of love that no one saw coming but when it did, it made perfect sense to why it had to happen. Our love didn’t make a sound; it was silent, so silent that we can almost hear our hearts beating in sync. It was the type of love that only those who have experienced it can appreciate its true worth.
We weren’t each other’s first partners but we certainly are each other’s first love. We took a lot of wrong turns and made a handful of bad decisions before reaching one another and I’m so glad we did. If we happened before all the blunders and changes, we might have ruined a “once-in-a-lifetime” type of love. We needed all the lessons learned, the broken hearts and sleepless nights before making it to one another so that we’ll be better partners for each other.
I haven’t told you this but I actually am scared that I might do something stupid or reckless that I might make a mess of this great thing we have. I’ve stayed mum a lot of times when in fact I should have told you how much you inspire me to do better; how my love for you makes me want to scream your name and let everyone know that I’m the luckiest person alive to have you in my arms, in my heart and in my life.
I may never find the words to truly express how I feel but you have no idea how thankful I am to have you here with me, to have you happen to me. You saw the best in me when everyone else noticed the flawed version of myself. You decided to believe in me every day of your life, cheering me on, pushing me towards the person you said was destined for something great. You made me see myself in a way only you could and I’m forever indebted to you for that but lastly, you look at me like I’m one of the stars you’ve always enjoyed watching and darling, believe me when I say, you are better than all those stars combined, you are someone everyone else is hoping to find and I’m glad to call you mine because you are my Utopia.
