Everybody knows how special, not to mention valuable, BenCab pieces are. They belong to the realm of experienced art collectors who really know their shizz.
Thankfully, the National Artist for Visual Arts has collaborated with Canvas for its 20th book release. Behold, BenCab’s Activity Book for Children.
The book holds 20 of BenCab’s iconic paintings, alongside text and activities like puzzles, several pages of coloring section, and paper doll cutouts, which were also inspired by BenCab’s women images on canvas, that were designed by teacher Karen Foronda.
According to Gino Alampay, founder and executive director of Canvas, the book is gender-neutral and is aimed at readers aged six to 10. “But there are activities in it even for kids aged 12.”
The book touches on subjects like family, climate change, the urban poor, the role of women, OFWs, nationalism, and heroes, among others.
Apart from letting you have your “first” BenCab, purchasing the book at P300 a pop allows you to help the less fortunate, too.
For every purchase of BenCab’s Activity Book for Children, Canvas will donate two copies to less fortunate young readers. In fact, “of the 15,000 copies of the book initially published, Canvas plans to sell only 3,000 copies to the public and give away 12,000 copies to charity,” writes Alex Vergara on Manila Bulletin.
At the moment, the book is available at the Ayala Museum in Makati, the Pinto Museum in Antipolo, and the BenCab Museum in Baguio.
You can also purchase a copy at the Canvas Gallery and Garden (1 Upsilon Drive Ext., Alpha Village, Diliman, Quezon City) or have Canvas ship it.
