The world’s first restaurant to offer xiao long baos in different colors and different flavors is finally in Manila—at the second level of S Maison at the Conrad to be specific.


Paradise Dynasty is a casual dining joint from Singapore that has long gained popularity for its xiao long bao game. Its soup dumplings come in eight different flavors: original, foie gras, black truffle, garlic, ginseng, cheese, Szechuan, and crab roe.

While it’s easy to regard it as marketing gimmick, tasting them will have you swallowing your judgmental words, too.

According to Manila Bulletin, it was Paradise Group CEO Eldwin Chua and his team of chefs who created these inventive flavors, after rounds and rounds of tasting and testing.

Pro-tip: Order the specialty sampling basket to taste all eight variants. If the Manila location is anything like Paradise Dynasty’s in Singapore, there will be instructions on how to devour the XLBs—start with the original, end with the Szechuan.

“We want to provide diners with a valuable dining experience that comprises affordable food in a mesmerizing setting located at a prime location,” says Chua. He drew inspiration from his frequent travels to China and the array of food in its many provinces.

Paradise Dynasty first opened in Singapore in 2010. It then made its way to Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, and Japan, before finally landing in Manila.

Among other must-tries are the hand-pulled noodles aka la mian, which are freshly made in full view of diners in the open kitchen, and the affordable range of Shanghainese dim sum.
