On Friday, Café Ysabel on P. Guevarra Street in San Juan announced on Facebook that it’s down to its final months. Come April 2017, it will close down.
Apparently, in the last 35 years, the San Juan mainstay has only been leasing the P. Guevarra lot.
According to Café Ysabel staffer Don-Don whom we spoke with on the phone, Café Ysavel tried to make a deal with the landlord but it didn’t pan out. The landowners have decided to give up the lot.
It’s all too sad until he shared with us the good news: Café Ysabel will be moving just down the block on Wilson Street, a little past the Ongpauco property if you’re coming from Ortigas Avenue.
He tells us that the plan will have them moving the entire structure—the white elegant house, tainted glass windows, wooden floors, and ceiling paintings—to the new location.
“Renovations will begin in January. Sana matuloy yung target na matapos after three to four months,” he shares. If all goes well, the new Café Ysabel on Wilson will open just as it closes on P. Guevarra.
While we will definitely be on the lookout for this, we shall be relishing the last few months of the San Juan staple. You should be too: Call +632 7255089 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a table.
