And 2016 keeps on taking: Carrie Fisher, our beloved Princess Leia, has died. She was 60 years old.
Fisher had a heart attack inflight on her way to Los Angeles from London on Friday, Dec 23. Her condition was reportedly stable, and that is why we are utterly taken by surprise.
Fisher was only 19 years old when she played the role of Princess Leia Organa in the first installment of Star Wars in 1977. She also started in the second and third Star Wars films, as well as 2015’s The Force Awakens.
According to The New York Times, “Lucasfilm said on Tuesday that Ms. Fisher had completed her work in an as-yet-untitled eighth episode of the main ‘Star Wars’ saga, which is scheduled to be released in December 2017.”
Fisher, having been diagnosed as bipolar, has been an advocate of mental health awareness. She was born on October 21, 1959.
Oh boy. Excuse us while we weep.
