On December 29, the Metro Manila Film Fest held its annual Gabi ng Parangal at the Kia Theater in Cubao, Quezon City.

Die Beautiful and Seklusyon were the early winners, racking up awards left and right. But it was only fitting that the most important entry of this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival—IMHO—won the most important award.

Sunday Beauty Queen—the first documentary film to compete in the history of the Metro Manila Film Festival—took home the Best Picture Award at the Gabi ng Parangal.

A documentary about Filipino OFWs in Hong Kong joining beauty contests to find escape and relief from their daily work, Sunday Beauty Queen is a refreshing take on the tale of OFWs, all at once sad, funny, hopeful and full of dignity.

The film, which was directed by Babyruch Villarama also won the Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award.

Sunday Beauty Queen fought hard to stay afloat and in theaters and we really couldn’t be happier it won! Congratulations!
