After the controversial dog slaughter scene in Oro, Hollywood film A Dog’s Purpose is now getting slammed after a video of a frightened dog being forced into rushing water on the filmset surfaced.

The footage gathered by celebrity news website TMZ showed a dog trainer recurrently trying to persuade a German Shepherd into the cold rushing water. The worst thing: Off camera, someone on set was heard laughing, saying, “You just got to throw him in.”

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) called for a boycott of the said movie after learning of what happened.

Meanwhile, the movie’s director, Lasse Hallstrom, said on Twitter that he considered himself an animal lover and was “very disturbed” by the video. He also said he had not witnessed the said happenings.

TMZ however says otherwise, saying they we’re told that the director was present the whole time, and at least “one member of the crew was extremely disturbed by the dog’s treatment during this scene.”

The American Humane Association, which monitors the treatment of animals in films, said in a statement that they already suspended the representative who was on the set and everything is now under investigation.

Josh Gad, the actor who voiced the dog in the film, tweeted saying he was “shaken and sad” at the video. He added, he did not know about it as he was never on set.

The film’s producer Amblin Entertainment said that they was investigating the incident and stressed that they had followed protocols about the use of animals on film sets.

“There were several days of rehearsal of the water scenes to ensure Hercules (the German Shepherd) was comfortable with all of the stunts. On the day of the shoot, Hercules did not want to perform the stunt portrayed on the tape so the Amblin production team did not proceed with filming that shot.”

“Hercules is happy and healthy,” Amblin said on a statement.

A Dog’s Purpose, which is topbilled by Dennis Quaid, is about a devoted dog re-born several times to different owners, bringing warmth into their lives. The film is set to release in the United States on January 26.
