And just like that, Art Fair Philippines is five years old. This year’s edition will bring in activities even before the fair starts on Feb 16 to 19 at The Link Carpark in Makati.
On Feb 9, The 10 Days of Art will herald the start of the festivities, with exhibit openings, art installations, special film screenings, street art, busker performances, and parties.
Pro-tip: Everything’s not to be missed of course, but not to be missed is the Asian premiere of Street (2012), an art vifro by British artist James Nares. That’s happening from Feb 14 to Feb 19 at the Ayala Triangle Gardens with two screenings (12pm and 5pm).
Bookmark the Garaparty on Feb 16 happening at La Fuerza on Pasong Tamo, 8pm, as well.
Now onto the Art Fair Proper: Four floors will hold precious art pieces from 46 participating galleries, 12 of which are international. That’s like one floor and six galleries more than last year.
That’s not mentioning the 10 interactive installations spread around the venue, special exhibitions of Mark Justaniani, Jeona Zulueta, Dex Fernandez, Elmer Borlongan, Emmanuel Garibay, Agnes Arellano, Patricia Eustaquiao, and Mark Valenzuela.
Jose Tence Ruiz, one of the artists who represented the Philippines at the Venice Biennale in 2015, will take center stage.
