When 19-year-old Hilary Buenaflor posted on her wall about you know, maybe hiring her as a third wheel photographer on Valentine’s Day, she was only reacting to the very many “boyfriend/girlfriend for hire” posts that always pop up and go viral during Valentine’s season.
“Nag-isip ako nang bago, na puwede mag-trend sa Facebook,” the down-to-earth Adamson student tells MB Life. She started looking around for ideas. “Napansin ko, yung mga magka-date laging may kasamang friend na nagpi-picture sa kanila.”
And so she decided to play the role a lot of people take for granted: be the designated third wheel to couples, and then take their photos in exchange for some cashola.
She issued a call out, thinking it would be a hit among the Adamson University. But “Nag-spread na pala siya, hindi na lang Adamson. Nabigla talaga ako,” Hilary says pleased. In the following days, her Facebook was on fire with never-ending notifications and inquiries.
“I only entertained a few,” she said. “Because a lot asked about covering for birthday parties, pre-nups, hindi naman for Valentine’s Day.”
Between school and her UAAP duties, Hilary was able to book several dates to document. And now, “nagka-part time job ako because of that post. I think I can land a photography-related job in the future.”
That or social media, dear. Hats off to enterprising and hardworking people everywhere! And hats off to you, Hilary. Wish we knew how to make money off being a third wheeler. We’ve been playing that role since Adam.
