Hip-hop, zombies, The Black Eyed Peas, and Marvel. Yep, you read that right.
Masters of the Sun – The Zombie Chronicles will give life to the futuristic world of Zulu-X, the hip-hop inclined lead character living in Los Angeles strapped to fight in a world attacked by aliens and humans turning into zombies.
Written by Black Eyed Peas front man Will.i.am. and illustrated by Benjamin Jackendoff and Damion Scott, the narrative will also divulge the realism of LA gangs and street dance culture. Pretty dope, huh?
“The Black Eyed Peas and I have begun a new journey… We’ve been working on this original story for years and partnering with Marvel to bring this book to life is more than a dream come true,” said Will.i.am in an exclusive release by Billboard.
In an Instagram post, he also expounded that instigating this new dream started upon witnessing the survival of a friend through cancer and realizing that anything is possible, ultimately leading them to set the meeting with Marvel and successfully pitching Masters of the Sun in the process.
It is indeed refreshing to uncover new ways of art and music expression these days, especially when it’s this thrilling. Like Marvel editor Axel Alonso said, “Few artists have done more to embed hip-hop in popular culture than will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas.”
Masters of the Sun will hit the shelves in July this year, and yeah–we’re lining the hell up.
