After the success of Beauty and the Beast live-action movie, there’s now a proposed remake for a live-action film for Mulan.

But here’s the shocking part: It is not a musical and Li Shang won’t be in the movie.

In an interview with Moviefone, director Niki Caro talked about her approach to remaking the film.

“From what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children,” she said.

Instead of what could’ve been a beautiful sing-along to the iconic “I Will Make a Man Out of You” or the makabagbag-damdaming “Reflection,” Caro said that the remake will be “a big, girly martial arts epic.” We’re talking thrilling action sequences and extremely muscle.

As though that wasn’t enough, Mulan’s love interest, Li Shang, won’t appear in the movie. He may be replaced by a new character who acts as the heroine’s rival named Chen Honghui.

They may just be two changes but they’re major tweaks. Obviously, fans are already over-acting disappointed.

Thankfully, our idol Lea Salonga, who was the singing voice of Mulan in Disney’s animated classic, has weighed in on the matter. She says it’s fine for the live-action version to not feature the songs, but Shang’s removal? Not so much. Check out her tweets:

But it seems that she is not okay with the fact of removing Shang’s character.

The good news is, apparently, the movie will have an all Asian cast. Yay! And hopefully, Disney will still consider having songs and Li Shang to our fave childhood movie.

The film is set to release in the United States on Nov 2, 2018.
