After years of big-screen adaptation rumors, it’s finally happened. On March 29, Wednesday, Warner Bros. Pictures has finally dropped the teaser trailer for IT we’re half-terrified and half-excited.
The film is based on 1986 horror novel by Stephen King, which is about a killer clown named Pennywise, who torments a group of young kids from the 1950s through the ’80s.
According to EW, the film also appears to be faithful to the book, “featuring everything from Georgie’s paper boat to the dilapidated “House on Neibolt Street,” which serves as a gateway to Pennywise’s underworld, and even getting gruesome with the bloody encounter one of the Losers, Beverly Marsh (Sophia Lillis), has with the creature in her own bathroom.”
This is the first time the horro novel has been turned into a movie. In 1990, the novel was adapted into a TV miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown, John Ritter as Ben Hanscom, Harry Anderson as Richie Tozier, Richard Masur as Stan Uris, Tim Reid as Mike Hanlon, Annette O’Toole as Beverly Marsh, Richard Thomas as Bill Denbrough, Olivia Hussey as Audra Phillips, Dennis Christopher as Eddie Kaspbrak, and Michael Cole as Henry Bowers.
Bill Skarsgard leads the cast of the movie as Pennywise the clown. The cast also includes Jaden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jeremy Ray Taylor, and Owen Teague. It is directed by famous horror film director and screenwriter, Andres Muschietti.
IT will hit the theaters on September 8, 2017.
